Challenges included huge variations in base flow rates over expected life of project in very flat terrain.
  • Used developed model on another project as freelance designer for Dorsch Consult, including detailed design, final contract docs and all construction drawings using AutoCAD personally.
  • Conducted various smaller studies for water and sanitation projects throughout Botswana, designed improvements or new build projects as required. Clients included EEC and US Dept of State.

  • Developed time saving system to semi-automate 225miles of long section design for 3-4foot diameter raw water pipeline. Using spreadsheets, LISP and AutoCAD; Surveyor's field data and Site Investigation results used directly to produce plans and long sections; and to provide accurate pipe, earthworks and rock quantities for tender documents for the World Bank sponsored North South Carrier project.
  • Coordinated alternative route selection with environmental consultants on the project, considering all land acquisition, socio-economic effects and engineering implications.
  • Supervised AutoCAD drawing production for some 280 long sections and 70 other detailed drawings by staff.
  • Produced tender documents for Pipe Supply and Pipe Laying Contracts using FIDIC.
  • Completed conceptual, hydraulic and structural design of 3 break pressure tanks to BS8007 and BS8110.

  • Designed small bore sewer network for 300plot township and 2miles of relief sewer main, produced bills, specification and tender documents for World Bank sponsored Swaziland Urban & Industrial Development Project. Challenges included steep terrain and densely populated areas.
  • Re-designed treatment process at large sewer treatment plant, fitting new anaerobic pond and associated pipework into existing confined hill-side site. Produced tender documents.
  • Conducted fieldwork, conceptual design, socio-economic analyses and cost-benefit analysis for several reticulation and treatment projects.

  • Performed slope stability analysis; consolidation analysis; and remedial geotechnical design of 230foot high earth embankment dam in Kenya.
